What new technology can you use for your contracting business? What will be here for years to come? What questions do you ask? What tools do you buy? Lets take a look at some of today’s technology and how to approach and implement it into your business plan.
It seems like every year some new color, style, shape or version of light fixture appears and what you were installing 2 years ago is now such old news that you can’t even display photos of your work on your company website without risking being laughed at. So, how do you avoid this? First look at the manufacturer, how long have they been in business, are their products original and is their technology the absolute latest version. Look at their company website, do they have their own lines of lighting that they have worked to patent or are they purchasing new products released at last years light show in Hong Kong? It is usually a safe bet that if a manufacturer has taken the time to patent and name their lighting lines they have a product that is time tested and will be here for years to come. Next look at the product and what it is going to be used for. Is the product some sort of quick answer to solve a lighting retrofit scenario? Is the product style so trendy you see it on every social media source? If you answered yes to these two questions it is likely you will be deleting the photos of your work sometime in the next 18 to 24 months.
